The executive director of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), Mawusi Nudekor Awity, has urged the young people of Ghana to take up skills training to reduce the numbers of unemployed Ghanaians.

Mrs Awity made these remarks when she joined 500 young men and women in Axim on a skills training programme.

The 500 youths were being ushered into various trades, including dressmaking, hairdressing, catering and beadmaking.

The NVTI has also launched a campaign to make technical and vocational training and education (TVET) attractive again. Mrs Awity believes it will help reduce the cultural bias in favour of academic education.
